Have you ever thought about how creative God is?
From the tiniest atom to the vastness of space, from the intricate design of a snowflake to the complexity of the human brain – God’s innovative nature is on display everywhere we look.
And those are just things we can see with a microscope, the naked eye, or a telescope. We cannot even imagine the beauty of the unseen realm.
God doesn’t just create things and walk away. Throughout history, He’s constantly coming up with new ways to connect with the people He created.
From Genesis to Revelation we see God’s innovative nature. God created light and brought order to a formless world, demonstrating creative power in Genesis 1. In Revelation 21:5, He proclaims: “Behold, I am making all things new” showcasing His ability to innovate and renew.
We see His creative and innovative nature with the people of Israel in passages such as the following:
God fills craftsmen with skills to create artistic designs, reflecting His innovative spirit. (Exodus 31:1-6)
God creates innovators and tools for His purposes, emphasizing divine creativity. (Isaiah 54:16)
God promises a new covenant, replacing the old with a transformative relationship. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
The Scriptures share so many examples of the active, creative, and innovative approach God takes to reach out to the people He created.
From the way He provided clothing for Adam and Eve after they ate the forbidden fruit, to the promise with a rainbow that He made with Noah after the flood, to the Ten Commandments He gave to Moses, to the talking donkey who spoke to the rebellious “prophet” Balaam, to the new covenant He made through Jesus, to the introduction of the presence of the Holy Spirit, God continued to introduce new ways of interacting with people. God communicated important messages to those He desired to reach by sending prophets, signs and wonders, natural disasters, angels, and even a star at the birth of Jesus.
One of the most important verses on God’s innovative nature comes from Isaiah 43 when God says:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:18
The entire chapter is beautiful as God promises protection and redemption to the people of Israel.
This isn’t just poetry – it’s God’s declaration that He’s in the business of doing new things.
Innovative Church Leaders rest in the love of God and stay in step with the Spirit. We seek to find what God is doing and join Him in His work.
Too often as pastors and church leaders we try to find the next gimmick as our quick fix or we try to make things happen in our own strength which can leade to burnout or flameout.
Healthy church leaders bring health to their churches.
God is doing a new thing, and we have the opportunity to join Him so that through us He will build His Church!
